Equipment

Ingredients

The Base

The Toppings

  • 2 slices sharp white cheddar cheese
  • 2 to 4 onion rings*

Guinness Glaze*

  • ½ cup Guinness
  • ½ cup light brown sugar

Instructions

How To Make Guinness Burgers

  • Begin by preparing the Guinness Glaze (see directions below).
  • Once the glaze has gone into the fridge, prepare frozen onion rings according to package directions.
  • While the onion rings cook, grill the Classic Burger Patties until desired doneness, topping with slices of sharp white cheddar cheese about halfway through cooking.
  • Assemble your Guinness burgers: transfer patties to potato buns and top with 1-2 onion rings and a drizzle of Guinness Glaze.
  • Serve with your favorite side, a cold Guinness, and enjoy!*

Guinness Glaze

  • Add Guinness and brown sugar to a small saucepan. Stir to combine and bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat and simmer until thickened and reduced by about two-thirds, about 30 minutes. Stir occasionally and watch for bubbles, lowering heat if it starts bubbling too much.
  • Transfer glaze to a small bowl and refrigerate for at least 5 minutes before drizzling over burgers.

Notes

Classic Burger Patties: This is our original recipe for delicious homemade burger patties. But we totally get it if you want to use frozen or pre-made patties to make this dish a little easier! (P.S. Check out our BBQ variation on the classic patty for a different kind of homemade burger, if you want to switch things up a bit).
Onion rings: Our absolute favorite frozen onion rings to make at home are Alexia's. They're so crispy and tasty, and they cook really nicely both in the oven and in the air fryer! Or check out how to make your own beer battered onion rings at home!
Guinness Glaze: The ingredient amounts listed here will give you more glaze than you need for the burgers. But whatever is left over makes a great dipping sauce for a side of fries or onion rings with these Guinness burgers! Click here for more ideas on how to use this glaze.
Serving suggestions: We served our burgers with a side of onion rings, since we were making them for a burger topping anyways!
