Avocado Lime Crema

This zesty avocado lime crema instantly brightens up any dish with its citrusy flavor and creamy texture. Make it in just 5 minutes and enjoy with crispy pork belly tacos or sweet potato black bean enchiladas.

One of our favorite things about taco nights is the number of different ingredients and toppings that you can use! And this avocado lime crema is one of our favorites. Especially when served with a heavier taco meat like carne asada.
The bright and citrusy crema adds a punch of flavor that helps balance salty meats and spicy salsas. Make a batch to enjoy with taco night as a topping or simply another fun side for dipping chips.

Why We Love This Recipe
This little dip makes for a great summery addition to any taco night. I especially love it with our cashew crusted fish tacos and carne asada nachos.

Avocado Lime Crema Ingredients
- Greek yogurt – We love using greek yogurt as a healthy crema alternative to sour cream. We use 5% fat Fage because it is most similar to sour cream in texture. Of course if you want to use sour cream, you can.
- Avocado – A ripe avocado will be dark green in color and give slightly under your thumb when you press.
- Lime juice – This recipe is best with fresh lime, look for limes with thin, bright green skin that are easy to squeeze. They will be the juiciest.
- Cilantro (optional) – This is an optional ingredient that adds a bit of fresh herby flavor but is not necessary for the recipe.
See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
How To Make Avocado Lime Crema
- Combine avocado, sour cream, about half of the lime juice, and salt in a food processor or blender. Also add in the cilantro if you’re using it.
- Blend until smooth.
- Taste and adjust. If you want a thinner, limier crema, add some more lime juice, if you want a milder creamier crema leave it as is. This is also a great time to adjust salt if needed.
- Blend until well mixed if you added more lime juice or salt.
- Serve and enjoy!
Avocado lime crema can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. But honestly you’ll probably finish it before then!
Serving Suggestions
This flavorful crema goes with a ton of different meals. You can use it to dress up a plain chicken and rice, drizzle it over your favorite Mexican dishes (like our air fryer cauliflower tacos with a spicy chipotle glaze), or scoop it with tortilla chips.
Here are some of our favorite recipes to make with this avocado crema:
- Carne Asada Tacos
- Carne Asada with Rice & Beans
- Carnitas bowls
- Sweet potato black bean tacos
- Sweet potato taco bowls
- Baked chicken tacos
It’s so versatile that we don’t know if we should call it a sauce, dip, spread, dressing, or snack – because it’s all of these at the same time! We also love drizzling this crema over burrito bowls, salads, and nachos. It’s just so creamy and adds an extra punch of citrus that instantly brightens any dish.
