BLT Pizza Ingredients

Can you guess what goes on our homemade BLT pizza? Yeah, you probably can. But in case you can’t here is everything you need to make it:

  • Pizza dough – Store-bought works well for this recipe, but if you are going to make some from scratch we recommend a thick crust dough. Check out the Al Taglio dough from Mastering Pizza
  • Crushed San Marzano tomatoes – High quality tomatoes make the sauce so much more flavorful and make sure you get tomato in every bite!
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese – Grab a block and shred it yourself for best results!
  • BLT – Bacon, romaine lettuce, and vine tomatoes make up the majority of our toppings
  • Garlic aioli – Because all BLTs deserve a little garlicky flavor and creamy aioli. Just check out our classic BLT with roasted garlic aioli if you need further proof.

How To Make A BLT Pizza

Making a BLT pizza is super simple. Once all your ingredients are prepped, all you have to do is stretch the dough and top with all that deliciousness.

  1. Prep your ingredients – Stretch the dough, shred the cheese, chop and cook the bacon, slice some tomato, and chop the lettuce.
  2. Build your pizza – Top the dough evenly with the crushed tomatoes, leaving about a half inch crust around the border. Next, sprinkle the cheese evenly over the pizza, and top with sliced tomatoes, chopped bacon, and a pinch of sea salt.
  3. Bake – Cook until the cheese is bubbly and the crust is golden.
  4. Finish – Once the pizza has come out of the oven, top with lettuce and drizzle with garlic aioli.
  5. Slice, serve, and enjoy!

Expert Tips

  • Always bake pizza based on the dough you are using. If you make a homemade dough, follow the baking directions for it.
  • We always set our timers a little short of how long we expect the pizza to need. This way we can take it out if it is baking faster than expected. Every dough and every oven are different.
  • If you’re ambitious and looking for more flavor, make your own easy roasted garlic aioli for a simple yet fun twist to this recipe.
  • If you are making bacon fresh for this recipe, chop it into small “crumble sized” pieces before cooking. It helps the bacon cook faster and means no crumbling it afterwards.
  • For cleaner cutting, slice the pizza before topping with the shredded lettuce and garlic aioli. This will help make cutting and serving less messy!
  • Use offset pizza scissors for cutting homemade pizza. They work especially well for heavily topped pizzas like this BLT pizza! If you’ve never cut pizza with scissors before, you’re missing out. It works like a charm, and means you can cut the pizza right in the pan without scratching it.
  • If you have leftovers, drizzle them with some fresh garlic aioli after reheating.

Storing and Reheating Leftovers

BLT pizza can be kept in the fridge for up to 5 days. We like to store it in tupperware so that the toppings don’t get smushed. However, tinfoil works perfectly well for storing BLT pizza as well!

Whenever you are ready to enjoy your leftover BLT pizza, simply heat it in the oven at 350 degrees F for 10 to 15 minutes. You can heat it with the lettuce and garlic aioli right on it. Our recommendation, however, is to give it a fresh drizzle of aioli after reheating for extra flavor and moisture.

BLT Pizza FAQs

We find the best sauce for a BLT pizza is a simple can of high quality San Marzano crushed tomatoes. This way the classic bacon, lettuce, and tomato flavors come though in every bite. There’s no need for a classic pizza sauce or Italian flavoring in this recipe.

However, we do add a drizzle of garlic aioli on top of the pizza after baking for an extra creamy sauce. We believe that all BLTs should have garlic aioli!

A BLT pizza is a BLT club sandwich (bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich) that has been turned into a pizza! It’s a delicious fusion recipe that makes for a perfect savory but light and fresh dinner for the summer.

The chopped lettuce goes on the pizza after baking. This way the lettuce stays crispy and fresh instead of getting limp and soggy in the oven.

Notes

Slicing: Optionally, you can actually slice the pizza before topping with the shredded lettuce and garlic aioli. This will help to make the cutting, and serving process less messy! We like to use these handy pizza scissors to cut through homemade pizza – it helps make super clean cuts, and lets you cut the pizza right in the pan.
Baking pizza: Oven temperatures vary enough that you’ll want to keep an eye on your pizza during the last few minutes of cooking. It’s always best to set your timer towards the earlier side, around 18 to 20 minutes, and then check every few minutes after that.
Storing and reheating leftovers: BLT pizza can be kept in the fridge for up to 5 days. We like to store it in tupperware so that the toppings don’t get smushed. However, tinfoil works perfectly well for storing BLT pizza as well!
Reheat leftovers in the oven at 350 degrees F for 10 to 15 minutes. You can heat the pizza with the lettuce and garlic aioli right on it. Our recommendation is to give it a fresh drizzle of aioli after reheating for extra flavor and moisture.

We love making this recipe with a thick crust dough or even on focaccia. The thicker, oily crust makes this pizza taste that much more like a BLT sandwich.
