This gin mule is a fun take on the Moscow mule, made with gin instead of vodka. Perfect for gin lovers everywhere!
We’ve recently become obsessed with gin. It’s clean, crisp, and light, yet so flavorful thanks to the juniper and aromatics infused into the liquor. Which is why it’s the perfect substitute for vodka if you’re looking to add more flavor to your cocktails, or aren’t the biggest vodka fan!
This cocktail is just like a traditional Moscow mule, but made with gin. Simply swap the vodka out for gin, and you have a delicious gin mule! It’s the perfect cozy drink for sipping by the fireplace this winter.
What This Recipe Entails
You don’t need any fancy equipment or ingredients to make our gin mule recipe. In just a few minutes, you’ll be sipping on this tasty cocktail!
- Equipment: Jigger, bar spoon
- Prep time: 2 minutes
Gin Mule Cocktail Ingredients
You only need 4 ingredients to make a Moscow mule with gin:
- Gin
- Simple syrup
- Lime juice
- Ginger beer
London dry gin, like Tanqueray, works best for a gin mule. It has a clean, crisp flavor profile that’s juniper forward, which goes great with the ginger beer. However, always feel free to experiment with different kinds of gin in your cocktails to see what you like best!
You can buy simple syrup at the store, or make your own at home. Simply mix a 1:1 ratio of water and granulated sugar in a pot on the stove, bring to a boil and stir until the sugar dissolves, then let cool and store in a jar in the fridge.
As for the ginger beer, we tend to like the flavor and carbonation level of Gosling’s. Any brand will do, though, so choose one that you like best.
How To Make A Gin Moscow Mule
It’s so easy to make a gin mule at home. You don’t need any fancy equipment or special ingredients – just a way to measure the liquor and stir everything together.
- First, fill a Moscow mule mug or large rocks glass with ice.
- Then, add the gin, simple syrup, and lime juice to the glass. Stir with a bar spoon to combine.
- Top off with ginger beer, garnish with a lime wedge, and serve immediately.
When To Enjoy A Gin Mule Cocktail
You can enjoy a gin mule anytime of year, just like a Moscow mule! But we especially love sipping on these drinks in the fall and winter. There’s just something so cozy about the earthy and herbal flavors of juniper and ginger beer.
Gin mules are easy to make in just a few minutes, so they’re the perfect cocktail for dinner parties and holiday gatherings. Since you’ll only use a few ounces of ginger beer per drink, it’s also easy to make a few of these at a time using just one can of ginger beer.
You can even spruce up this recipe for the holidays using flavored simple syrup, like making a flavored version for Christmas with cranberry rosemary simple syrup (recipe here). Add fun garnishes like cranberries and fresh rosemary sprigs for a festive touch, and everyone will want a taste of this gin mule!
