We love a good smoothie on a hot summer day, especially after a sweaty workout! They’re such a great way to get essential nutrients into your diet – but store-bought smoothies can sometimes be high in calories and sugar. That’s why we like to make them at home instead, and come up with new recipes like this strawberry blueberry smoothie without yogurt!

This frosty, refreshing smoothie is such a treat when you’re craving fruit but don’t have any fresh berries on hand. Made with frozen blueberries, frozen strawberries, almond milk, flaxseed, and agave nectar, this smoothie has no dairy, but it’s still super thick and creamy. Try our recipe and experience the magic yourself!

Strawberry Blueberry Smoothie Recipe Ingredients

To make a thick dairy free strawberry blueberry smoothie without yogurt, you’ll need:

  • Unsweetened almond milk
  • Frozen blueberries
  • Frozen strawberries
  • Flaxseed
  • Agave nectar

So then, how do you thicken a dairy free smoothie? You don’t need anything special – frozen fruit will do! Frozen fruit blends much thicker than fresh fruit, since fresh fruit is so juicy (more liquid content = thinner smoothie). With just a bit of almond milk to help the frozen fruit blend, you’ll end up with a deliciously thick non-dairy strawberry blueberry smoothie!

We like to add agave nectar for a bit of extra sweetness. This counteracts the almond milk and brings out the sugary flavors of the strawberries, making this smoothie extra tasty and refreshing. We also love adding a spoonful or two of flaxseed to all of our smoothies for an extra boost of fiber.

How To Make A Strawberry Blueberry Smoothie Without Yogurt

This strawberry blueberry smoothie couldn’t be any easier to make! That’s probably the best thing about smoothies, in our opinion. All you need is a blender and less than 5 minutes.

Here’s how to make our dairy free strawberry blueberry smoothie recipe:

  1. Add the ingredients to the blender in this order: almond milk, frozen blueberries, frozen strawberries, flaxseed, agave nectar.
  2. Blend on medium to high speed until smooth, about 1 to 2 minutes.

Always add liquid to the blender before anything else – this will help the frozen fruit blend much more easily. Sticky ingredients like agave nectar or peanut butter are best left until the end, so that they stick to the fruit and get blended in evenly instead of sticking to the blender walls or blades!

Note: Don’t make this smoothie in a big batch and store leftovers in the fridge for later. Since it’s made of mostly frozen fruit, it’ll separate as it sits over a few hours. We recommend making a single batch at a time and enjoying right away.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • ¼ cup frozen blueberries
  • 2 to 3 large frozen strawberries whole
  • ½ tablespoon ground flaxseed
  • ¾ teaspoon agave nectar

Instructions

  • Add all the ingredients to the blender in the order listed above. (Adding the almond milk first will help the frozen fruit blend more easily).
  • Blend on medium to high speed until smooth, about 1 to 2 minutes. Serve immediately.

Notes

Frozen fruit: Make sure to use frozen fruit, not fresh – it’s what makes this dairy free smoothie so thick! Fresh fruit is very juicy, so you’ll end up with a really thin smoothie if you substitute.
Big batch: We do not recommend preparing this smoothie in a bigger batch and saving leftovers in the fridge for later. Since it’s mostly made of frozen fruit, it will separate as it sits in the fridge. It’s best to make a single batch and drink it right away!
