Sun Dried Tomato Basil Cream Cheese Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need to make our sun dried and tomato basil cream cheese recipe:

  • Cream cheese
  • Sun dried tomatoes in oil
  • Dried basil

Philadelphia cream cheese is our go-to brand – its creamy texture is superior to all other brands we’ve tried! And it’s perfect for incorporating flavors like sun dried tomatoes and basil.

You’ll want to buy jarred sun dried tomatoes in oil for this cream cheese schmear recipe, and then blitz them in a food processor so that you can easily incorporate them into the cream cheese.

Finally, we like to use dried basil for flavoring cream cheese since it will help the spread stay fresh longer than if you were to use fresh basil. If you want to make a big batch or you know it’ll take you at least a few days to go through a tub of this cream cheese, then definitely stick with dried basil.

How To Make Sun Dried Tomato Basil Cream Cheese

This recipe is as easy as 1, 2, 3… (4. enjoy). Here is everything you need to know to make sun dried tomato and basil cream cheese:

  1. First, make sure to get the cream cheese out of the fridge and let it soften for about 30 minutes at room temperature. This will make it much easier to mix flavors into.
  2. Next, blitz the sun dried tomatoes in a food processor until they’re very small chunks of consistent size.
  3. Then, combine the cream cheese, tomatoes, and dried basil in a bowl and mix well. It helps to use the back of a spoon to press the flavors into the cream cheese, and then fold it over itself, repeating this technique until the cream cheese has an even consistency.
  4. Finally, optionally chill in the fridge for at least 15 minutes, or enjoy right away!

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • tablespoons sun dried tomatoes finely chopped or blitzed in a food processor
  • ¼ teaspoon dried basil

Instructions

  • Add the softened cream cheese to a mixing bowl with the sun dried tomatoes and dried basil. Mix by hand, using the back of a metal spoon to help spread the cream cheese and fold the ingredients into it.
  • Optionally chill the cream cheese in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Cream cheese:  Philadelphia cream cheese has the best texture of any brand, by far! It’s super creamy which makes it easy to mix ingredients into by hand.
Softening the cream cheese:  Let the cream cheese soften before making so it is easier to mix the ingredients in. Around 30 minutes on the counter or 30 to 60 seconds in the microwave will help it soften and make mixing far easier.
Sun dried tomatoes:  It is best to make sure these are finely chopped so you don’t get any large chunks mixed into the cream cheese. To aid in this, a food processor can be used to chop the sun dried tomatoes.
