This spicy whipped brie recipe with Calabrian chiles is the perfect appetizer served with sea salt crackers. Make it for your next date night or holiday gathering!
Ever since we hopped on the whipped brie trend, we’ve been hooked. Starting with our blueberry lemon whipped brie dip back in May, we’ve been dreaming up new ways to enjoy this luscious appetizer! Since we love a good spicy dish, adding Calabrian chiles was a no-brainer.
Spicy, savory, and oh-so creamy, this whipped brie cheese is simply irresistible. Pair it with some sea salt crackers for your next cheese night, date night, or holiday party and your favorite glass of wine, and you’ll be hooked, too.
What This Recipe Entails
You can make whipped brie with just a few minutes of hands-on prep time. Note that you’ll need to let the brie sit out at room temperature for about 30 minutes to soften.
- Softening time: 30 minutes
- Prep time: 10 minutes
Whipped Brie With Calabrian Chiles Ingredients
You only need 3 ingredients to make this delicious brie cheese appetizer:
- Double cream brie cheese
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Chopped Calabrian chiles in oil
- Sea salt crackers, for serving
You don’t need the fanciest brie for this recipe, since you’re going to be flavoring it. We recommend buying a mid-tier brie so that it has a smooth, creamy texture for whipping and a clean flavor profile to build upon.
As for the extra virgin olive oil, make sure to use a high quality oil that you enjoy the flavor of. Olive oil varies widely in flavor and quality, and lower quality options can taste bitter (which you definitely don’t want). There isn’t a lot of EVOO in this whipped brie, but if you use a bad one, you’ll notice.
Calabrian chiles are often sold in jars, either whole or chopped. If you can only find the whole ones, simply take out all the peppers (leave the oil in the jar), chop them up, and return them to the jar! Then you have chopped Calabrian chiles ready to go for this recipe and any others.
How To Make Whipped Brie With Calabrian Chiles
If you’re wondering how to whip brie cheese, it’s simple! All you need is a food processor and a bit of time to let your cheese come to room temperature.
- First, remove the rind from the brie and slice it into cubes. Let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to soften.
- Next, add the cubed brie to a food processor with the extra virgin olive oil and chopped Calabrian chiles in oil. Pulse until the brie is smooth and creamy.
- Finally, transfer the whipped brie to a serving dish. Make a shallow well in the center using the back of a spoon, and fill the well with additional chopped Calabrian chiles. Drizzle extra oil over the whipped brie from the jar of Calabrian chiles if desired, then serve with sea salt crackers.
By adding a little bit of oil to the brie before whipping, you’re not only adding extra flavor, but providing additional fat. This helps create the light and airy texture of your whipped brie.
If you want to taste less of the olive oil, and more of the spicy Calabrian chiles, you can try swapping the amounts. Keep the same ratio of oil to cheese, but experiment with different amounts of the two ingredients until you reach your desired flavor profile.
Whipped Brie Serving Suggestions
Whipped brie makes a great appetizer served with high quality sea salt crackers. We love pairing spicy whipped brie with these Firehook baked sea salt crackers! You can typically find them in the deli section of the grocery store.
Depending on how hungry you are, one batch of this recipe is the perfect size appetizer for 2 to 4 people. We love making it for date nights at home followed by a small pizza, or with our favorite tapas recipes.
Whipped brie is also perfect for holiday gatherings like Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter since you can make it in just a few minutes. You can even prepare it ahead of time and store it in the fridge until you’re ready to serve it. Just let it sit on the counter for 10 to 15 minutes after refrigerating so it becomes smooth, creamy, and spreadable again.
Scaling
You can easily scale this recipe to feed a larger crowd! This is especially helpful if you’re planning on making whipped brie dip for the holidays.
Make sure to use a large enough food processor to handle the volume of brie you’re whipping. As you whip the brie, it will increase in volume slightly since you’re adding air to the mixture.
If you don’t have access to a larger food processor, we recommend making the whipped brie in batches.
Storing Leftovers
In case you somehow end up with leftover whipped brie, store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. When you’re ready to enjoy it again, let it sit out at room temperature for at least 10 to 15 minutes so it softens.
