This pulled pork dip is like the sweet, extra decadent cousin to buffalo chicken dip. It’s thick, creamy, meaty, and cheesy. Basically, everything you want in a game day snack!

Is it healthy? No. Is it delicious? Yes. And do we tell ourselves it’s better for us than other dips, because at least it has some protein? Absolutely.

What To Expect

  • Great for: Game days, cookouts, and other parties!
  • Ready in: 35 minutes
  • Serves: 4 people if it’s the main thing they’re eating. A small appetizer for a party.
  • Flavor profile: Sweet and savory barbecue flavor. When served with Fritos for dipping, the combo almost tastes like the BBQ flavored Fritos!
  • How to make it: Mix together the ingredients, bake, top with more BBQ sauce, and serve.

This BBQ dip is so easy to throw together with leftover pulled pork when we’re craving a cheesy, hearty dip or need something to bring to a game day party.

Ingredients

  • Cream cheese – Make sure to let this sit on the counter for about 30 minutes before making the dip so it softens. It’ll be much easier to mix this way.
  • Cheddar – We like to use shredded sharp cheddar cheese. You can either use a block and shred it yourself (it melts better this way!), or use the bagged stuff for convenience. Either works.
  • Barbecue sauce – This is the main flavor in the dip, so use a barbecue sauce you love! We prefer a sweeter, slightly thicker BBQ sauce (more like Kansas City or St. Louis style). Just make sure that whatever sauce you use isn’t too thick, as it won’t mix into the dip quite as well. As a reference, we found that Sweet Baby Ray’s was too thick.
  • Pulled pork – Use premade, leftovers, or store bought. We always make a big batch of slow cooker pulled pork, then portion out different amounts to freeze until we need it for recipes like this one!
  • Chives (optional) – If you want to garnish the dip and make it look pretty, add some chives on top for a pop of color! Totally optional.

Serving Suggestions

Just like our thick and creamy buffalo chicken dip, we only recommend serving this pulled pork dip with Fritos scoops! They’re the ultimate chip for thick, cheesy, meaty dips like this one since they won’t break, unlike tortilla chips.

We love to make this dip for football games. It goes great with other game day snacks like buffalo wings and BBQ pulled pork nachos. Or, have a dip party and serve it with 4 layer Mexican dip, spinach and artichoke dip, and Mexican street corn dip!

How To Make BBQ Pulled Pork Dip

You can make this dip in just one baking dish! Mix everything together right in it, then pop it in the oven:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Mix – Add softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, barbecue sauce, and pulled pork to a large baking dish. Mix well to combine, smashing the cream cheese with the back of a spoon as you go to help break it down.
  3. Bake the dip for 20 minutes, then stir well to help everything combine now that it’s melty. Bake for another 10 minutes, then stir again before serving.
  4. Serve – Optionally top with a drizzle of barbecue sauce and chives, then serve hot.

Expert Tips

  • Soften the cream cheese – If you let it sit on the counter for about 30 minutes before making the dip, it’ll be so much easier to mix everything together. If you’re in a pinch, you can briefly microwave the cream cheese (about 15 seconds) to speed up the process.
  • Use your favorite barbecue sauce – The flavor of this dip is dictated by the barbecue sauce you choose, so make sure to use one you love! Just be careful not to use a super-thick or super-thin one; look for something with a medium consistency.
  • Prep the pork ahead of time, or use leftovers – We always have a stash of pulled pork in our freezer, since we buy a big pork shoulder at Costco every few months and then cook it up in our crockpot. If you eat pork frequently, we definitely recommend batch prepping like we do! Otherwise, plan to make this with leftovers.
  • Serve with Fritos scoops – They’re the best chips for this thick, creamy dip. They won’t break like tortilla chips, and they go so well with the savory barbecue flavor of this dip.
  • Storing and reheating leftovers – Store any leftover dip in the fridge for up to 5 days. Reheat in the microwave for about 1 minute per serving, stirring well at 30 second intervals.
  • Make ahead option – You can always mix up the dip in the baking dish, then keep it in the fridge until you’re ready to bake and serve. Note that you may need to extend the baking time by about 10 minutes.
  • Scaling – It’s super easy to scale this recipe up if you’re serving a large crowd. You can easily use a large foil baking dish if you’re making this for a party, and then you won’t have to worry about cleanup afterwards either.

Notes

Softening cream cheese: Let it sit on the counter for about 30 minutes. Or, you can microwave it for about 15 seconds if you’re in a pinch.
Barbecue sauce: This is where the dip gets all its flavor, so use one you love! Just make sure it has a moderate consistency; something too thick (like Sweet Baby Ray’s) or too thin will mess with the consistency of the dip.
Pulled pork: Prep this ahead of time, use leftovers, or even use store bought. We always have a stash of pulled pork in our freezer, since we buy a big pork shoulder at Costco every few months and then cook it up in our crockpot.
Scaling: It’s easy to scale this up for parties. Use a large foil baking dish if you’re feeding a crowd and don’t want to worry about cleanup afterwards!
Make ahead instructions: You can mix up the dip ahead of time, then put it in the fridge until you’re ready to bake it and serve. Note that you may need to extend the baking time by about 10 minutes to make sure it’s hot enough.
