Our buffalo artichoke dip is a vegetarian version of our creamy buffalo chicken dip and is even easier to make! 5 ingredients, 5 to 10 minutes of prep, and 30 minutes in the oven is all it takes to make our new favorite vegetarian game day appetizer!

As buffalo chicken dip lovers, we were so intrigued when we saw buffalo artichoke dip on the menu at our favorite local brewery. We instantly knew it was a recipe we had to recreate (and thankfully it was super simple since we already have the best buffalo chicken dip ever). But we absolutely loved the savory, tangy artichoke hearts and how well they paired with the spicy buffalo and sharp cheddar.

We always say how we love vegetarian recipes that aren’t just made to be vegetarian, but instead are made to be incredible and just happen to be vegetarian. And that’s exactly how we feel about this buffalo artichoke dip.

What To Expect

  • Great for: A vegetarian appetizer for game days, family parties, and cookouts.
  • Ready in: 35 to 40 minutes
  • Serves: 4 to 6 people
  • Flavor profile: Tangy, spicy, and cheesy. The bite from the artichoke pairs perfectly with the spicy buffalo sauce and sharp cheddar.
  • How to make it: Rinse, dry, and roughly chop the artichoke. Then combine it with cream cheese, cheddar cheese, Frank’s Red Hot, and ranch. Bake until warm and gooey. Serve hot with tortilla chips.

Key Ingredients

Ingredients for making buffalo artichoke dip: artichoke hearts, shredded cheddar, cream cheese, ranch dressing, frank's red hot.
  • Canned artichokes – Canned, quartered artichoke hearts make this recipe super easy since they are already cooked and partially prepared. We just want to be sure to wash them well before chopping them up and adding them to the dip to remove the super strong flavor of the brine.
  • Buffalo sauce – You don’t have to use Frank’s RedHot, but nothing else tastes quite the same. And no, we don’t get paid to say that (sadly), it’s just the truth.

Expert Tips

  • Thoroughly rinse the artichokes – Don’t skip this step! Canned artichokes are very briney, and if you don’t rinse them off that flavor can overpower the whole dip. We found that it’s best to rinse them super thoroughly (and pat them dry to remove excess moisture) so that you get true artichoke flavor without the brine. We have tried making this dip both ways (washing and not washing the artichokes), and have found that the dip is far better when we wash them.
  • Stir it part way through baking – While this step isn’t necessary, we have found it helps the flavors and textures to fully incorporate with one another – making for a creamier, more consistent texture.
  • Don’t make this just for vegetarians – Yes this dip is vegetarian, but it’s also packed with incredible flavor that everyone will love. It’s not just a vegetarian buffalo chicken dip, it’s its own recipe that stands out in flavor and texture thanks to the savory, tangy artichoke.
