Flaky pastry twisted together with chocolatey hazelnut spread creates these delicious and easy 3-ingredient Nutella puff pastry swirls that are perfect for a simple holiday dessert or date night treat.

Outside of Nicole’s unrivaled chocolate chip cookies, we don’t bake a whole lot of desserts, especially not traditional ones. We generally prefer to make easy, quick dessert recipes that allow us to spend more time eating, and less time baking. Think things like our 4 ingredient peanut butter fudge or our deep fried oreos. And now we’ve added these Nutella puff pastry swirls to our easy shortcut desserts.

Why We Love This Recipe
They’re so easy to make and taste like they came straight from the bakery! Plus, they make the kitchen smell amazing.

Key Ingredients
- Puff pastry – We like to use the Pepperidge Farm frozen puff pastry sheets for this recipe, but any brand will work. You can buy them whenever (perfect for getting ahead on your holiday baking shopping!) and then thaw the sheets on the counter for about 30 minutes before using.
- Nutella – It’s the best hazelnut spread around! We’ve tried generic brands and have determined Nutella is one of those things that just can’t be beat and is worth paying for the real thing. And if you love Nutella like we do, check out our Nutella pizza and our Nutella stuffed brioche french toast!
- Butter – A little bit of melted butter makes the pastry flakier, the Nutella meltier, and the overall taste better. So why not?

How To Make Nutella Puff Pastry Swirls

Step 1: Roll out the puff pastry on a sheet of parchment paper into a roughly 10 by 10 inch square. This makes for an easy working area where the pastry won’t stick.

Step 2: Spread an even (and thick!) layer of Nutella all over the pastry. Leave about a quarter inch of pastry bare on one of the edges. This will help to seal the pastry. But otherwise, go as close to the edge as you dare! Why wouldn’t you want as much Nutella as possible?

Step 3: Roll the pastry up, going towards the edge you left bare (use a bench knife to get this started if the pastry is stuck to the parchment at all). Try to keep the rolling as tight as possible. Press the bare end into the roll when you’re done to help seal the pastry and keep it rolled properly.

Step 4: Score the puff pastry before you slice it to make sure they’re evenly sized.

Step 5: Using a sharp knife, gently cut the roll into 8 equal pieces. Use a gentle sawing motion to cut through the pastry so you don’t squish all the flaky layers in the puff pastry (if you’ve ever watched Great British Bake Off, you’ll know what we’re talking about!).

Step 6: Place each swirl into the wells of a greased muffin tin, then brush each one with melted butter. Bake until golden brown and flaky.

Equipment
- Muffin tin
- Rolling Pin
- Sharp chef's knife
Ingredients
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry thawed
- 5 ounces Nutella
- ½ tablespoon butter melted
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F and lightly grease the wells of a muffin tin.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a sheet of parchment paper. Use a rolling pin to shape it into a roughly 10 by 10 inch square.
- Spread an even layer of Nutella onto the puff pastry. Leave a about a quarter inch border on one of the edges for sealing; otherwise go all the way to the other 3 edges.
- Roll up the pastry tightly, going towards the bare edge. Use the bare edge to seal the pastry shut.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the pastry into 8 equally sized rounds. Start by scoring the roll to help make sure you get even cuts.
- Place each swirl into the greased miffin tin, then brush the tops with melted butter.
- Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown and flaky.
- Gently release them from the pan with a spoon or knife and transfer to a cooling rack (be careful, they’re hot), then let cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Work on parchment paper so the pastry doesn’t stick to your work surface.
- If the pastry is super floury, brush some off before spreading the Nutella. This will help the Nutella stick better.
- Use a bench knife to help roll the pastry up if it’s stuck to the parchment at all.
- Make sure to slice the roll with a gentle sawing motion, not a pressing motion, so you don’t squish the layers of puff pastry.

I swear you can put Nutella on anything and it’s always going to taste good. Made these this morning for an easy, sweet breakfast and they were delicious!
Agreed! So glad you enjoyed them, sounds like a perfect start to the day!
This recipe kinda happened on a whim when we had some leftover crescent rolls. We decided it would taste and work better on some puff pastry, and we were right. So this simple recipe was born and we decided we needed to share it with all of you! The gooey, chocolatey center is by far my favorite bite. Much like a cinnamon roll.
