We made a super easy mojito mocktail that’s the perfect refreshing, non-alcoholic drink for these warm summer days. It takes just 4 everyday ingredients and 3 to 5 minutes to make this delicious drink that you’ll be sipping on all day long.

We’ve been all about making fun, refreshing mocktails lately inspired by some of our favorite cocktails. Like our pineapple coconut water mocktail (from our pineapple coconut margarita) and our pomegranate mocktail (based on a pomegranate mule).

So now that we’re getting into summer, Nicole really wanted to make a mojito mocktail – or nojito as some like to call it, although Nicole hates the name – for a non-alcoholic version of one of her favorite classic cocktails.

What To Expect

  • Great for: Cookouts, sitting by the pool, warm summer days, or anytime you’re looking for a refreshing drink.
  • Ready in: 5 minutes
  • Serves: 1 drink
  • Flavor profile: Bright and light featuring a sweet mint and lime.
  • How to make it: Muddle lime wedges and mint leaves with the simple syrup. Then top with ice and sparkling water and stir to combine. Serve with a fresh mint sprig and a straw.

Why This Recipe Works

Mocktails can be hard to make because they often feel like juice or flavored seltzer. But this mojito mocktail works because we can add in complex, grassy flavors by muddling the lime to replace those same notes that mojitos normally get from rum. The trick to making a good mocktail is getting those deeper, more complex flavors that elevate a drink to something truly crafted.

Key Ingredients

Ingredients for making mojito mocktails: fresh mint, limes, simple syrup, and club soda or sparkling water.
  • Limes – The key to a great mojito is freshly muddled lime. The skin and pith of a lime release their oils when muddled, which gives this drink much more zesty lime flavor than if you were to only use lime juice (trust us, we tried it with just juice and there wasn’t nearly enough lime flavor). Plus, the muddled lime wedges look beautiful in the glass, and the magic of mocktails lies partially in the presentation!
  • Fresh mint leaves – You simply can’t have a mojito without fresh mint! Make sure you have enough to muddle into the cocktail and use as a garnish. Mojitos are classically served with a mint sprig so that you smell the aroma of mint as you take a sip, adding to the overall taste and experience.

Expert Tips

  • Choose the right glass – Mocktails and cocktails are all about presentation. A tall glass, like a Collins glass, works perfect for drinks that are muddled and topped with club soda, like mojitos!
  • Put the mint leaves in the glass before the lime – This way, you can muddle the lime wedges into the mint, and the mint won’t get over-muddled. When mint is over-muddled, it becomes really bitter and starts to fall apart. It’ll ruin the taste of the drink and cause bits of leaves to float around in your glass.
  • Stir gently once you’ve added the club – Stirring a carbonated drink knocks the bubbles out of it. So we want to make sure we don’t stir too aggressively or too much so our mocktail stays nice and bubbly.
  • Garnish with extra mint – Mint has a really strong smell, so putting a sprig in your drink helps enhance the mintiness of the mocktail. Before you put the mint spring in your glass, wash it off and slap it gently against the back of your hand. This will help bring out the oils and make it smell even more potent.
  • Serve with a straw – Because we like to serve these mocktails with a fresh mint sprig, a straw makes this cocktail much easier and more enjoyable to drink. That way the mint is close to your nose without being in your face. We love our stainless steel straws for times like this.
