Healthy Grilled Chicken Sliders Ingredients

To make our grilled chicken sliders recipe, you’ll need chicken breast, slider rolls, and a few other basic ingredients. Here’s a full list of ingredients to guide you when shopping for this recipe:

  • Chicken breast – sliced into small patties about the size of your palm
  • Lemon juice, olive oil, and sea salt – for marinating the chicken
  • Pull-apart dinner rolls – or Hawaiian rolls, whichever you prefer
  • Green leaf lettuce
  • Tomato
  • Red onion
  • Chipotle mayo – or your choice of condiment

We recommend using lettuce, tomato, and onion as fresh and healthy toppings for your grilled chicken sliders. These ingredients taste great alongside a slather of our homemade chipotle mayo, especially on fluffy dinner rolls.

If you’re wondering what else to put on grilled chicken sliders, you can simply swap chipotle mayo for your favorite condiment, like plain mayo, garlic aioli, or mustard. You can also try mixing and matching other toppings like pickles, avocado, or even coleslaw. Grilled chicken sliders are super customizable, so don’t be afraid to get creative!

How To Make Grilled Chicken Sliders

Our grilled chicken sliders recipe is as straightforward as it gets. Simply marinate and grill the chicken, prepare the toppings, assemble the sliders, and serve! You can make this entire meal in less than 35 minutes.

Here’s a detailed breakdown of how to make our grilled chicken sliders:

  1. Marinate the chicken in lemon juice, olive oil, and sea salt for 15 to 20 minutes.
  2. In the meantime, prepare your toppings. Slice the tomato into rounds, then halve or quarter those (depending on the size of your tomato). Slice the onion into rings. Gently tear the lettuce into small pieces.
  3. Next, grill the chicken over medium-high heat in a cast iron grill pan, flipping every 3 minutes or so until cooked through. This should only take about 9 to 12 minutes total.
  4. Finally, assemble the sliders. Separate the dinner rolls, then transfer chicken patties to each bottom bun. Top with lettuce, tomato, and onion, then spread some chipotle mayo on each of the top buns before closing.

These healthy grilled chicken sliders topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, and chipotle mayo are an easy lunch, dinner, or party appetizer you can cook indoors on a cast iron grill pan.
Servings 12 sliders
Prep Time 20 minutes
Cook Time 12 minutes
Total Time 32 minutes

Equipment

Ingredients

Grilled Chicken

  • 1 lb chicken breast sliced into 12 small patties
  • ¼ cup lemon juice
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 2 pinches sea salt

Slider Toppings

  • 1 large red vine tomato
  • 1 small red onion
  • 2 to 3 leaves green leaf lettuce
  • 12 brioche dinner rolls
  • ¼ cup chipotle mayo

Instructions

  • First, marinate the chicken. Add chicken to a bowl with lemon juice, olive oil, and salt and stir to combine. Marinate at room temperature for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • In the meantime, prepare the slider toppings. First, slice the tomato into quarter-inch thick rounds, then cut each round into quarters. Next, slice the onion into thin rings. Finally, gently tear the green leaf lettuce into 12 pieces, one for each slider.
  • Next, grill the chicken. Preheat a cast iron grill pan over medium-high heat, then add the chicken once the pan is hot. Grill for about 9 to 12 minutes total, flipping every 3 minutes or so, until cooked through.
  • Finally, assemble the sliders. Separate the dinner rolls and slice in half, then transfer the grilled chicken patties to the bottom halves of the rolls. Top each slider with a piece of lettuce, a quarter of tomato, and a few slices of onion. Then, spread about 1 tsp of chipotle mayo on the top half of each slider bun before closing.
  • Serve immediately with a side of fries, chips and salsa, or a side salad and enjoy!

Notes

Brioche dinner rolls: We like to use Nature’s Own brioche style butter rolls for this recipe, but you can definitely use any type of pull-apart dinner rolls or Hawaiian rolls.
Chipotle mayo: We recommend trying our homemade chipotle mayo recipe here for these sliders – it’s so easy to make and tastes delicious with the lettuce, tomato, and onion! Alternatively, you can use your favorite store-bought chipotle mayo, regular mayo, or even garlic aioli on these sliders. Mix and match your favorite condiments for some variety.
Grilling the chicken: You can absolutely follow your preferred method for grilling chicken, whether that’s on a real grill, a George Foreman, or a cast iron grill pan. We’ve included the cast iron grill pan instructions here since it’s our go-to method (especially in the winter!).
