Two halves of a chicken bagel sandwich stacked.

Bagels get a lot of love as a breakfast food, but we think they make the best bread for a savory sandwich! Our favorite local bagel shop has all kinds of delicious lunch sandwiches that they serve on whatever flavor of bagel you want. The best ones always have a thick schmear of flavored cream cheese, a protein, and fresh veggies.

That’s exactly what we’ve recreated here – a savory bagel sandwich you can enjoy for lunch, featuring cream cheese, grilled chicken, sun dried tomatoes, and a classic LTO topping. What more could you want in a sandwich?

What This Recipe Entails

You can quickly make this sandwich if you have leftover chicken and garlic herb cream cheese in the fridge! If you want to prep both of these ingredients fresh, you’ll need at least 30 minutes to make them first.

  • Advanced prep time (optional): 30 minutes to grill chicken and make the cream cheese
  • Prep time: 5 to 10 minutes

Ingredients

A bagel sandwich with chicken, cream cheese, and sun dried tomatoes.

How To Make A Chicken Bagel Sandwich

  1. Optionally toast the bagel. It’s up to you if you want it crispy or not. We prefer a soft, fresh bagel for our sandwiches.
  2. Add the spreads. Spread the garlic herb cream cheese on the bottom half of the bagel, and the sun dried tomatoes on the top half.
  3. Assemble and serve. Layer chicken, lettuce, tomato, and onion onto the cream cheese half of the bagel. Close it up, slice in half, and enjoy!

Recipe Variations

While we think this recipe has the best flavor combo, you can totally switch up the spreads and protein to make this bagel sandwich your own! Here are some suggestions:

Notes

Ingredients: You can quickly make this sandwich if you have leftover chicken and garlic herb cream cheese in the fridge! If you want to prep both of these ingredients fresh, you’ll need at least 30 minutes to make them first.
  • Use your favorite kind of bagel – we prefer asiago, but anything works great here!
  • We like to make a simple grilled chicken marinated with lemon, olive oil, and salt to have on hand for sandwiches like this, but you can also use rotisserie chicken or deli meat if you prefer.
  • Chop up the sun dried tomatoes by hand or in a food processor so they’re easily spreadable.
